Leveraging Translation Memory

Translation Memory (TM) is a collection of previously approved translations, used to increase consistency and speed up translation. When one or more translation memory files is active, suggestions from the TM appear as a translation is entered into the target segment or when the Leverage tool is used.

The Leverage tool differs from the automatic leveraging that takes place during translation in that it provides an instant TM leverage of the selected segment using the most current TM available with a number of leverage options.

To leverage Translation Memory from the Translation tab:

  1. Go to the Projects list tab (refer to Opening Projects).
  2. Select and open the project.
  3. Select the file to translate.
  4. Click Translate File.

The file is leveraged against the TM assets and the results are presented under the Translation tab in the Target Segment column.

  5. Select the segment to leverage against the most current TM when Leverage is clicked.
  6. In the Segment or Automated section of the Tools ribbon on the Translation tab, click one of the following:
    • Leverage (or press Alt+–) to retrieve suggestions from the active TM for the selected source segment

    • Until Fuzzy (or press Ctrl+Alt+F) to retrieve suggestions from the active TM until the next Fuzzy match

    • Until No Match (or press Ctrl+Shift+PgDn) to retrieve suggestions that from the active TM for the all source segments until no exact match is found

The leveraged content from the TM appears if a match is found. When MT is enabled, the MT match is populated.
