Defining Penalties

Penalties are defined to maintain a high quality of content leveraged from Translation Memory. A relative value is assigned to each of the penalties, which are then taken into account when calculating the translation score. This score is used to differentiate between golden or 100 %, fuzzy, and no match.

To define penalties for a project:

Open Wordfast Pro and select a project from the project list.
Click Open Project.
Click Preferences under Options.
The overall preferences setup panel appears.

Click Penalties.
The Penalties preferences for the current project are presented.

Check the categories desired and supply their thresholds. Below is a list of penalties and their description.

Penalty	Description
Case	Differences in case is considered.
Non Literal	Differences in special characters, including punctuation, space, apostrophe, dash, quote, etc.
Tag	Differences in tagging.
Whitespace	Differences in blank spacing.
Align	Differences in Translation Units based on alignment.
Machine Translation	Differences in Translation Units based on Machine Translation.
Multiple Translation	Differences in Translation Units based on duplicates within the TM with different translations.
Local TM	Differences in Translation Unit and local desktop copy.
Remote TM	Differences in Translation Unit and remote TM.
Private TU	Differences in workgroup Translation Unit and remote TM.
Public TU	Differences in non-workgroup Translation Unit and remote TM.
Attribute	Differences in attributes.
If Attribute is Not	When custom attribute in the Translation Unit does not match the text box attribute.
If Filename Attribute Does Not Match	When the filename attribute in the Translation Unit does not match the TXLF filename.
